Baylor Scott & White Plans Withdrawal from Texas Medicaid Managed Care
Baylor Scott & White Health Plan (BSWHP) has announced its decision to withdraw from the Texas Medicaid Managed Care Program and cease offering individual marketplace insurance by 2026. The health plan communicated these intentions to regulatory bodies and employees, with the planned exit from Medicaid managed care effective August 31, 2026, and the conclusion of individual marketplace plans on December 31, 2026. This move aligns with Texas's Medicaid procurement strategy and complexities in the individual marketplace sector.
Currently, BSWHP serves approximately 3.5% of Texas's Medicaid clients and 2.6% of its Marketplace clientele. Pending regulatory approval, the plan aims to inform members about the transition and provide necessary support. Baylor Scott & White assured that its healthcare facilities will continue to accept Medicaid and marketplace insurance policies, ensuring continuity of care for patients.
BSWHP plans to focus on expanding services for employer-based groups and Medicare Advantage recipients, emphasizing a seamless service experience. This strategic shift will lead to changes in roles supporting Medicaid and marketplace operations, affecting a limited number of non-clinical positions. The organization is committed to supporting displaced employees with career guidance, priority job placement, and training for in-demand clinical roles.
Despite this operational transition, Baylor Scott & White remains dedicated to enhancing direct patient care roles, creating nearly 500 positions in Temple and Central Texas last year. Recruitment efforts continue for over 3,000 job openings across the Baylor Scott & White network, reinforcing their commitment to high-quality healthcare service delivery.
