Oklahoma AG Joins Suit Against State Farm Over Storm Claim Payouts
Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond has joined a lawsuit against State Farm alleging the insurer has been underpaying storm damage claims and violating consumer protection laws. The suit claims State Farm operated a program to limit legitimate claims by denying or underpaying them, which Drummond argues results in policyholders paying more but receiving less coverage value. Drummond accuses State Farm of breaching the Oklahoma Consumer Protection Act and the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, seeking reimbursement for customers and court-ordered reforms. In response, State Farm denies the allegations as false. Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready noted that in the past five years, homeowners insurance providers in Oklahoma have paid out more than they have received in premiums.
