WTW and Sompo Holdings Partner to Implement Radar AI in Auto Insurance Pricing

WTW (Willis Towers Watson) and Sompo Holdings have announced a global partnership to implement WTW's Radar technology across the Sompo Group. Sompo Direct Insurance Inc., a Japanese direct-to-consumer automobile insurer under the Sompo Group, has already begun using Radar as its rate calculation engine since June 2025. The adoption of Radar enables Sompo Direct to utilize advanced data analytics and predictive modeling to better assess customer risks, leading to more accurate and agile automobile insurance pricing.

Radar, developed by WTW, is an advanced platform offering end-to-end analytic and model deployment capabilities designed specifically for insurers. It integrates machine learning and real-time decision-making into the pricing, underwriting, and portfolio optimization processes without requiring programming expertise. This results in faster, more flexible premium revisions that reflect current market and accident trends.

The use of Radar facilitates accelerated premium updates and improved risk assessment, aligning with regulatory and market demands for agile insurance product development. Sompo Direct's system enhancements demonstrate the integration of sophisticated technology solutions within traditional insurance operations to increase competitiveness and customer responsiveness.

Beyond Japan, the Sompo Group has begun implementing Radar in other markets such as Turkey, with plans for further deployment across Southeast Asia. This global expansion reflects Sompo's strategic focus on data-driven insurance operations and the leveraging of technological innovation to enhance product offerings and operational efficiency.

WTW's Insurance Consulting and Technology (ICT) unit, which includes Radar, serves insurers worldwide by combining advisory expertise with advanced technological tools to enable better risk selection, capital management, and regulatory compliance. The partnership with Sompo underscores the growing trend of digital transformation in the insurance industry, particularly in the areas of automobile insurance pricing and underwriting.
