Texas Ranks Among Lowest States for Health Care Access and Affordability

A recent study by Wallet Hub ranks Texas among the bottom five states for health care quality and access, citing the highest rates of uninsured adults and children. The study incorporates data from key agencies including CMS, the Census Bureau, and KFF. The findings highlight significant challenges in insurance coverage, with new federal budget provisions expected to increase the number of uninsured Texans by approximately 1.9 million due to changes in ACA subsidies and Medicaid renewal protocols. Texas also ranks poorly for health care costs, physician availability, and dental care utilization compared to other states. The top states for health care were New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Iowa, and Massachusetts, whereas Texas was grouped with Mississippi, Alaska, Alabama, and Georgia at the lower end of the spectrum.
