CRC Group to Acquire Lloyd’s Specialty Underwriter Atrium Underwriting

CRC Group has agreed to acquire Atrium Underwriting, a Lloyd’s managing agency known for specialty insurance and reinsurance across property, casualty, and other niche sectors. Atrium Underwriting, managing Syndicate 609, reported $1.3 billion in gross written premium last year, highlighting its significant market presence within the Lloyd’s insurance marketplace.

The acquisition marks CRC Group’s first investment outside North America and aligns with its strategic growth initiatives. Following the acquisition, Atrium will maintain operational independence, continue under its established brand, and retain its current management team. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter, pending regulatory and closing conditions.

Atrium’s specialization in specialty insurance and disciplined underwriting culture complements CRC Group’s portfolio, which recently expanded with the purchase of ARC Excess & Surplus, a specialty wholesale insurance distributor integrated into CRC Specialty. This move signals CRC Group’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in the specialty insurance market segment.

The acquisition underscores continued consolidation and strategic investment in specialty insurance sectors, emphasizing disciplined underwriting and consistent capital returns to third-party investors. The deal reflects ongoing interest from North American investors in expanding their footprint in the Lloyd’s market.

Regulatory approvals will be required before closing, as customary in insurance acquisitions of this scale. Both firms have communicated a clear vision centered on strategic transformation and sustained financial performance. Market participants should watch how CRC Group leverages Atrium’s expertise to drive growth and competitive advantage in specialty and reinsurance lines.
