Texas Leads U.S. Cities in Driving Safety; Boston Most Collision-Prone per Allstate

The 2025 Allstate America's Best Drivers Report highlights significant trends in driving safety across the U.S., with Texas leading the nation in safe driving. Four Texas cities, including Brownsville, ranked in the top 20 safest driving cities, with Brownsville regaining its position as the safest city nationally. In contrast, Boston is identified as the most collision-prone city, where drivers face a risk nearly 3.5 times the national average.

This annual report, now in its 17th year, analyzes collision data from Allstate's extensive auto claims over a two-year period, from January 2022 to December 2023. The study covers 200 of the most populous U.S. cities, utilizing claims data representing about 10% of national auto policies, providing a robust industry snapshot of collision likelihood.

Key findings indicate distinct geographic differences in driving risk. While Texas maintains a strong safety record, notable improvements have been seen in the Pacific Northwest. Conversely, some Midwestern areas have experienced increases in collision rates. The report disproves common coastal assumptions by comparing East Coast and West Coast driving risks.

Allstate emphasizes that basic safety actions — such as wearing seat belts, maintaining focus, and reducing speed — remain the most effective strategies for preventing crashes. These measures are highlighted as cost-effective practices that can enhance driver protection regardless of location.

The report does not influence insurance rates but aims to raise public and industry awareness about safe driving practices and collision risks. It is a tool for insurance professionals and policymakers to understand evolving risk landscapes and potentially guide future safety initiatives.
