Medicare fraud in the United States costs the program approximately $60 billion annually, impacting both the sustainability of Medicare and imposing significant risks on beneficiaries, including medical identity theft and increased stress. The Rhode Island Office of Healthy Aging’s Senior Medicare Patrol is highlighting the importance of fraud prevention during Medicare Fraud Prevention Week (June 2-8), focusing on educating beneficiaries and their families on protective measures and response strategies. This initiative aims to strengthen awareness and safeguard the integrity of Medicare, particularly for new enrollees turning 65 and beyond.
