F&G Annuities Reports Surge in Q3 Financial Results
F&G Annuities & Life, Inc. (NYSE: FG) announced robust financial results for the third quarter ending September 30, 2026, with net earnings for common shareholders surging to $736 million, or $5.48 per diluted share, dramatically up from $114 million, or $0.85 per share, in the same period the previous year.
This leap in net earnings was largely driven by $648 million in favorable mark-to-market adjustments. However, a deeper look into adjusted net earnings, which filter out certain market-induced volatilities, reveals a decrease. Adjusted earnings were $96 million, or $0.74 per share, compared to $165 million, or $1.22 per share, earned in the third quarter of 2025. This adjustment considers the changes in short-term alternative investment returns, underscoring market intricacies that influence profitability.
Strategic Growth and Market Dynamics
F&G's CEO and President, Conor Murphy, indicated that the firm's strategy not only aims at profitability but also emphasizes expanding assets under management (AUM). The firm reported a record AUM of $76.2 billion before reinsurance, highlighting strategic reinsurance and distribution capabilities as pivotal to achieving increased scale and profitability. Murphy's remarks reflect an industry trend where insurance firms are maximizing their AUM through strategic partnerships and operational tweaks to boost returns.
Sales performance in the third quarter also painted a promising picture, with sales totaling $3.0 billion. This includes $2.3 billion from core retail and opportunistic sales and $700 million from opportunistic ventures, pointing towards robust market engagement and strategic investment. Net sales stood at $1.4 billion, aligning with the company’s capital management goals particularly in multiyear guaranteed and fixed indexed annuities.
Capital Management and Financial Resilience
F&G demonstrated strong capital management, returning $37 million to shareholders through dividends and share buybacks in the third quarter. Additionally, total shareholder returns reached $232 million for the year through September 2026. These actions reflect a balanced approach to strengthening liquidity while rewarding shareholders.
