Captive Resources Welcomes New Head of Health Solutions Underwriting
Captive Resources has announced Andy Curry as the new head of health solutions underwriting, a pivotal role where he will shape underwriting strategy, technical underwriting, and operations, acting as the primary liaison with carrier partners.
Curry's extensive background in the insurance industry positions him well for this new challenge. Having served as vice president and chief underwriter at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, he managed commercial underwriting, encompassing significant areas such as medical stop-loss, pharmacy, and large employer underwriting. His career journey began at Sun Life Financial, progressing through vital roles at Tufts Health Plan and Berkley Accident and Health, amassing over 20 years of expertise. His diverse experience, especially in medical stop-loss, is anticipated to amplify Captive Resources' ability to support its members effectively and boost collaboration with carrier partners.
According to Steve Gransbury, president of health solutions at Captive Resources, “Andy brings the combination of deep technical stop-loss expertise and broad underwriting leadership experience that will be incredibly valuable as we continue to grow Health Solutions.” His appointment is particularly significant as Captive Resources administers 55 property and casualty and medical stop-loss group captives, involving nearly 8,000 member companies, collectively yielding over $6 billion in annual premiums. The organization’s robust framework has also returned more than $4.7 billion in dividends to its members, showcasing its substantial impact and trust within the industry. Professionals in the insurance sector will keenly watch how Curry's strategic initiatives may redefine underwriting processes and cooperation among insurers, brokers, and reinsurers.
