Chariot Re Raises $700 Million to Strengthen Reinsurance Platform and Underwriting Capacity

Chariot Re, a Bermuda-based life and annuity reinsurance company, has successfully secured an additional $700 million in capital through equity and debt financing, aimed at bolstering its underwriting capacity and advancing its reinsurance platform's growth.

The oversubscribed funding round marks the company’s third since its launch in July 2025, reflecting growing confidence from key sponsors such as MetLife and General Atlantic, along with institutional investors led by Chubb. Since its inception, Chariot Re has strategically raised over $2 billion, leveraging this capital to facilitate approximately $20 billion in reinsurance liabilities and complete three substantial reinsurance transactions. This impressive financial foundation is key to Chariot Re's strategy of scaling its operations and solidifying its market presence within a competitive industry landscape.

Capital Infusion Strengthens Reinsurance Platform

Chariot Re’s growing momentum and strategic investments underline its evolving position in the reinsurance sector. The latest capital infusion not only enhances the company’s capacities but also emphasizes its commitment to disciplined underwriting practices. CEO Cynthia Smith stated, “This financing expands our capacity to scale the reinsurance platform while maintaining our focus on disciplined underwriting and policyholder protection.” Such focus is pivotal as the reinsurance market navigates complex global insurance needs and emerging risks.

Market Opportunities and Strategic Partnerships

Notably, Chariot Re’s initial reinsurance transaction included a significant liability transfer from a MetLife subsidiary, representing structured settlement annuity contracts and pension risk transfer group annuity contracts. This innovative approach aligns with expanding global demands for life and retirement solutions, as highlighted by MetLife President and CEO Michel Khalaf. The collaboration not only reinforces Chariot Re’s platform but also positions it as a key player in delivering cutting-edge reinsurance services that address the evolving needs of the insurance market.

Backing by Industry Leaders

General Atlantic chairman and CEO Bill Ford praised Chariot Re's leadership, acknowledging the company's strategic trajectory and foundational strength. With an asset portfolio managed by MetLife Investment Management and General Atlantic, which includes public fixed income, private credit, private real estate, and private equity, Chariot Re is poised to utilize this diverse range of financial instruments to fuel its growth and maintain financial stability.
