Iowa State University Enhances Employee Benefits for 2027
As of 2027, Iowa State University is enhancing its employee benefits offerings by improving vision and dental services while maintaining existing medical plan structures. Deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and covered services under the medical and pharmacy plans will remain unchanged, allowing employees stability in their healthcare coverage.
Approximately 85.1% of overall healthcare costs will continue to be covered by Iowa State, ensuring affordable access for its staff. The ISU Plan participants will see premium increases for Wellmark HMO and PPO plans starting January 1, 2027, albeit these increases are expected to be below the market average. Benefits Director Ed Holland emphasized the university's commitment to offering competitive and affordable benefits in the face of rising healthcare costs.
Open Enrollment and Plan Changes
The upcoming open enrollment period, scheduled from October 26 to November 13, will allow employees to adjust their health, dental, and life insurance options, including the setup of flexible spending accounts and enrollment in eyewear discount plans. Updated materials detailing the 2027 plans will be available in October.
Specific plan changes include a monthly premium increase for Blue HMO plans ranging from $7 to $44, and for Blue PPO plans, ranging from $11 to $76, depending on coverage type. Additionally, Iowa State will transition its vision provider to DeltaVision in 2027, offering a minor premium reduction and enhanced benefits, such as improved lens options and increased contact lens and frame allowances.
Dental plan modifications will introduce more services, particularly in preventive and pediatric care, accompanied by a slight premium increase for employees. In keeping with evolving employee needs, Iowa State provides various voluntary benefits year-round, offering comprehensive coverage options.
