Texas Launches Online Resources for Home and Auto Insurance Claims
The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) has launched a comprehensive suite of online resources, designed to give Texans access to critical data on home insurance claims, premiums, and rate filings for both home and auto insurance. Texas Insurance Commissioner Amanda Crawford emphasized that these tools are a step toward greater transparency, offering residents essential insights into the claims process and premium levels that are relevant to their regional areas.
The resources include a detailed webpage outlining Texas homeowners' losses by county. It specifies the types and amounts of losses paid by insurance companies for claims related to wind and hail, water, fire, and other perils such as theft, liability, and vandalism. In 2025, insurers paid out $8.74 billion in claims across these categories, with wind and hail making up approximately 62% of homeowners' losses since 2019.
Another feature is the Texas homeowners insurance market overview page, offering data on average annual premiums across Texas counties from 2019 to 2025. This page provides insights into average rate changes, the rate filing process, and highlights major insurers in terms of premium volume. Additionally, the platform includes a Search home and auto insurance rate filings page, enabling users to check if their insurers have filed rate changes with TDI, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
