AI Transforming Auto Insurance Shopping Experience
According to the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Auto Insurance Study, an increasing number of consumers are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to compare and select auto insurance policies. This trend emerges as the auto insurance market experiences heightened competition with stabilizing prices. Data reveals that approximately one-third of auto insurance shoppers leverage AI tools for policy comparisons, making them more inclined to switch providers. Despite leveling rates, customer satisfaction remains hindered by insurers' challenges in delivering seamless multichannel interactions.
Stephen Crewdson, managing director at J.D. Power, emphasized the shift from pricing concerns to customer experience issues. “Rates are stabilizing, but many customers still report interactions aren’t seamless—especially when switching channels to resolve a single inquiry—even as a cross-channel experience has become the most impactful satisfaction driver," said Crewdson. The rise of AI-driven decision tools underscores a gap between insurer communications and customer expectations, particularly in the current market environment.
