Taiwan's National Health Insurance Fund Reaches $1.5 Billion Reserve
The National Health Insurance Fund of Taiwan announced a substantial financial milestone, revealing a net reserve fund of approximately $1.5 billion (NT$45.7 billion) in 2025, according to the National Health Insurance Administration. With premium revenues reaching $27.6 billion (NT$861.9 billion) and expenditures for medical benefits at $26.7 billion (NT$832.9 billion), the fund saw an impressive boost in its reserve.
In terms of cash-flow, the premium revenues totaled $27.1 billion (NT$847.8 billion), while $26.8 billion (NT$838.2 billion) was allocated for medical benefits throughout 2025. Additional income sources amounted to $0.7 billion (NT$20.4 billion), resulting in a cash-flow balance of $1.0 billion (NT$30.0 billion), further strengthening the fund's financial position.
The accumulated reserve fund increased significantly to $6.6 billion (NT$207.8 billion) by the end of 2025, up from $5.2 billion (NT$162.2 billion) in 2024. Notably, this financial resurgence follows a period of deficits in 2020 and 2021. Early 2026 indicators reveal a continuation of this positive trend, with the reserve fund peaking at $6.8 billion (NT$213.3 billion) in February before adjusting to $6.5 billion (NT$204.2 billion) in March, reflecting ongoing financial strength.
