Synapse Health Management of Durable Medical Equipment Under UnitedHealthcare

Starting on September 1, 2026, Synapse Health will take charge of managing the ordering and distribution of durable medical equipment (DME) within specific categories for UnitedHealthcare. This strategic transition introduces Synapse Health as a centralized coordinator, optimizing access to an extensive network of DME suppliers. The goal is to enhance service efficiency for both members and healthcare providers, streamlining processes and improving overall satisfaction.

The collaboration will impact members in various states, including Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. While all providers within these regions are included in the rollout, certain states are particularly targeted for integrating new network frameworks. Notably, this update will not affect specific Medicare Advantage plans, ensuring continuity for those members.

From September 2026, prescriptions for Synapse-managed DME must be processed via the Synapse Health e-prescribing portal. To assist this transition, Synapse Health offers communication pathways, personalized training, and various online resources. Their team will proactively contact stakeholders to resolve inquiries and arrange necessary training sessions, ensuring a smooth transition.

Ensuring continuity of care for members requiring ongoing DME services post-transition is imperative. Synapse Health commits to collaborating with existing suppliers to either sustain or effectively transition services. Should new documentation or orders be required, they will liaise with healthcare providers to guarantee uninterrupted patient care.

DME providers not yet part of the Synapse network must join to continue servicing UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage Plan members. Synapse Health provides details on network enrollment, and providers can contact the network inquiry email for more information.
