Arthur J. Gallagher Acquires Twin Elms to Enhance Environmental Insurance Offering

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has completed the acquisition of Twin Elms, LLC, a Florida-based retail insurance brokerage focused on environmental insurance policies and risk advisory services. Although the financial details were not disclosed, this acquisition aligns with Gallagher’s strategy to strengthen its holdings in specialized industry sectors.

Twin Elms, based in West Palm Beach, specializes in environmental risk coverage within the United States, offering critical insights into environmental liability policies. This niche has gained traction due to rising regulatory demands, climate-related risks, and shifts in commercial insurance markets. The leadership at Twin Elms, including principals Scott Houldin and Karl Touet, will continue operations under Bumpy Triche, head of Gallagher’s Southeast retail property and casualty division.

Strategic Industry Consolidation

J. Patrick Gallagher Jr., Chairman and CEO, stated, “Twin Elms is a highly regarded agency whose niche expertise will further enhance our environmental brokerage offerings.” This acquisition highlights the consolidation trend in the insurance brokerage industry as major firms acquire specialized firms to increase technical expertise, expand market penetration, and enhance advisory services in specific insurance segments.

The emphasis on environmental insurance is driven by businesses facing complex exposures related to contamination liabilities, redevelopment initiatives, industrial activities, and evolving environmental regulations. Industries like construction, real estate, infrastructure, and energy have increased demand, necessitating sophisticated risk management and insurance solutions.

For brokerages like Gallagher, acquiring specialty firms offers access to advanced underwriting expertise and strengthens client relationships in complex sectors. The past decade has seen rapid industry consolidation, influenced by national firms seeking scale, revenue growth, and cross-selling opportunities.

Gallagher continues to be a major player in industry acquisitions, targeting specialized agencies and independent firms to expand geographical and product strengths. Operating in approximately 130 countries, Gallagher’s environmental brokerage services have become more prominent as insurers adapt their underwriting practices concerning climate risks and industrial safety.

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., headquartered in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, provides comprehensive insurance brokerage, risk management, and consulting services, covering commercial, employee benefits, and specialized insurance domains.
