Massachusetts Caps Health Insurance Cost-Sharing in 2027
Beginning in 2027, Massachusetts will introduce stringent limitations on health insurance cost-sharing, setting new benchmarks in the United States. Starting in January 2027, insurers must cap increases in cost-sharing elements, such as deductibles and copayments, at no more than 3.6% for policies in the state's merged market. This includes individual and small-group fully insured plans. The new cap, down from the previous 4.8%, is projected to save policyholders an average of $232 annually. This move signifies a crucial regulatory step in Massachusetts' healthcare policy, following last year's introduction of limits on deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses.
