Nationwide Foundation Grants $750,000 to Expand Services for Homeless Youth in Ohio

The Nationwide Foundation has allocated a $750,000 grant to facilitate the expansion of services for homeless youth through Star House in central Ohio. Star House operates the region's only drop-in center for individuals aged 14 to 24 experiencing homelessness and will expand its services with a new location on Columbus' South Side. This strategic move addresses the heightened demand for such supportive services across the state.

Set to open in early 2027, the South Side campus will occupy the former St. Ladislas Catholic Church. Encompassing 26,000 square feet, the facility will offer essential resources including nutrition, clothing, hygiene supplies, healthcare, legal assistance, and job training. Additionally, it will connect youth to stable housing options, aiming to support more individuals annually in a nurturing environment.

Nationwide Foundation's contribution underscores its commitment to community support. Chad Jester, the foundation's president, highlighted the importance of fostering safe and caring environments for young people. Beyond drop-in centers, Star House also oversees 62 affordable housing units for young adults transitioning out of homelessness, offering immediate support and long-term solutions such as therapy and employment pathways. Established in 2006, Star House remains crucial in helping youth achieve stability.
