Gallagher Re Strengthens U.S. Casualty Position with New VP Appointment

Gallagher Re has appointed Christopher Lynch as Vice President and U.S. Casualty Facultative Broker, strengthening its position in the North American reinsurance sector. This strategic move comes as the casualty segment maintains stable rates within the reinsurance market.

Lynch, with over two decades of expertise in insurance and reinsurance, specializes in casualty lines and boasts a proven track record in complex risk management. He joined Gallagher Re in April 2026, bringing experience from Everest Re, where he was Assistant Vice President focusing on casualty and professional hybrid solutions. Prior to that, he acquired substantial experience at Swiss Re and held underwriting roles at CNA and Chubb.

His appointment coincides with challenging dynamics in the U.S. casualty market, influenced by social inflation and substantial jury awards. Swiss Re reports a 57% increase in U.S. liability claims over the past decade, with 27 cases in 2023 resulting in awards exceeding $100 million each. The rate of social inflation peaked at 7% in 2023, marking its highest level in 20 years.

Casualty Market Outlook

Looking ahead, Markel projects that while the property catastrophe segment is improving for buyers, the casualty reinsurance market remains constrained, necessitating strategic planning. Amwins has observed casualty loss trends in the range of 12% to 15%, underscoring the complexity of this segment.

Conversely, the facultative reinsurance market for property signals a shift towards lower rates. Gallagher Re's market analysis noted a decrease of 25% to 30% in property facultative rates in the U.S. and Canada by January 2026. Aon's commentary during the same renewal period highlighted an improving facultative reinsurance landscape, with global reinsurer capital rising to $760 billion by September 2025.

Lynch's role aligns with Gallagher Re's broader expansion strategy. Earlier this month, the company welcomed Odd Kåre Engh Mistereggen to its Nordic facultative reinsurance team. In the U.S., Lynch's hiring follows the additions of property facultative brokers Kevin Ingram and Lauren Mathis. These developments form part of the growth initiative under Pablo Muñoz, appointed CEO of global facultative reinsurance in July 2025. Gallagher Re emphasized that Lynch's extensive experience in various casualty lines enables him to offer valuable insights and solutions for clients handling complex risks.
