Latham & Watkins Expands New York Office with Insurance Expert Frank Monaco

Latham & Watkins LLP has announced a strategic expansion of its New York office with the addition of Frank Monaco as a partner in their Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Practice. Known for his specialization in representing insurers and reinsurers within complex transactions and regulatory compliance requirements, Monaco is set to enhance the firm's industry expertise.

Monaco’s role will focus significantly on AI-driven reinsurance transactions, including the transfer of substantial business portfolios. His regulatory insights are crucial for acquisitions, restructurings, and the creation of new insurance companies. With these skills, Monaco will bolster Latham's capability to navigate payer and provider challenges in the insurance sector.

Enhancing Expertise in Insurance M&A

According to Marc Jaffe, the Office Managing Partner in New York, "He brings sophisticated insights that will enhance Latham's ability to offer integrated advice to clients across the life cycle of insurance businesses." Monaco's veteran experience includes managing underwriting processes, block reinsurance transactions, and pension risk transfers.

In addition, Monaco has advised on collateral structures and maintained compliance with the insurance holding company act alongside other regulatory frameworks. His collaborations extend to private equity and asset managers aiming to create and fund reinsurance entities, thereby addressing risk management challenges.

Alex Kelly, Global Co-Chair of Latham's Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Practice, emphasized, "His expertise perfectly complements Latham’s existing top-tier insurance M&A capabilities." Monaco, expressing enthusiasm about his new role, stated, "Latham’s corporate insurance team offers the scale and sophistication to match clients’ ambitions in the capital markets."

Monaco is the third partner to join the New York practice in January, following sports M&A specialists Matthew Eisler and Russell Hedman. His previous tenure was with Clifford Chance, and he holds a JD from Fordham University School of Law and a BA from Trinity College.
