Pennsylvania Reports Highest Child Uninsurance in a Decade Amid Medicaid Cuts
The 2025 State of Children’s Health Insurance report by Pennsylvania Partnerships for Children highlights a decade-high of over 153,000 uninsured children in Pennsylvania. The increase coincides with federal policy changes under H.R. 1, which proposes nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts, new work requirements, and higher out-of-pocket costs potentially affecting 310,000 Pennsylvanians' health coverage. Significant coverage disparities exist, with 7.3% of Hispanic children and 9% of children of other races uninsured, and over 49,000 Medicaid-eligible children remaining without insurance. Seven counties account for almost half of all uninsured children, while nearly 47% of Pennsylvania's children depend on Medicaid, CHIP, or Pennie. With premium tax credits expiring and rising marketplace costs, access to affordable coverage is at risk for many families.
