San Rafael Woman Sentenced for Auto Insurance Fraud Involving False Hit-and-Run Claims

A San Rafael woman, Marilyn Gibson, was sentenced to 180 days in jail for committing auto insurance fraud, according to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.

Gibson pleaded guilty to filing a false insurance claim related to a 2021 incident involving a staged hit-and-run accident. She initially damaged her vehicle after a rear-end collision and subsequently submitted fraudulent insurance claims to different carriers without disclosing the prior accident. An insurance investigator verified the fraudulent nature of her claims, leading to her conviction and sentencing by Judge Kelly Simmons. Gibson was also sentenced to two years of probation, with the possibility of a three-year prison sentence upon violation of probation terms.
