Sentara Health Plans to End Multiple Medicare Advantage Products by 2025

Sentara Health Plans announced it will discontinue several Medicare Advantage products in Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida by the end of 2025. The affected plans include non-dual Medicare Advantage, Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug, Health Maintenance Organization, and Chronic Condition Special Needs Plans, with coverage ending December 31, 2025. Members impacted will receive notifications and must select new coverage during the Medicare open enrollment period starting next week.

The decision reflects financial sustainability challenges faced by Sentara Health Plans, citing industry-wide reimbursement cuts and regulatory changes as key factors. Importantly, the plan discontinuations will not impact the participation of Sentara Health hospitals and doctors in insurance networks, meaning provider acceptance remains unchanged.
