Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance Expands with Mountain West Acquisition

Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance Holding Company, the parent company of Farm Bureau Insurance Company of Idaho, is acquiring Mountain West Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Laramie, Wyoming. Both companies have a long history of serving agricultural clients across several Mountain West states. Mountain West Farm Bureau Mutual, established in 1948, operates primarily in Wyoming with expansions into Montana and Colorado. Idaho Farm Bureau Mutual has operated since 1947, also focusing on agricultural insurance.

This acquisition will create a combined entity serving over 130,000 policyholders across Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Washington, and Wyoming, with 450 employees and 250 agents. The companies will maintain their distinct branding, with Mountain West continuing its brand presence. The move is expected to enhance operational efficiencies, growth opportunities, and capital strength, positioning the combined business for long-term success.

The merger exemplifies strategic regional consolidation in the Mountain West insurance market, enabling a broader geographic reach while maintaining local brand identity and customer focus. Regulatory approval is anticipated to be completed within approximately four months.

Both firms emphasized shared values and mission alignment as key factors in the acquisition, aiming to strengthen their market position and community impact.
