New Hampshire Medicare Advantage Market Faces Provider Withdrawals in 2025

Medicare Advantage insurance plans in New Hampshire are facing significant changes as several providers are expected to withdraw from the market due to financial constraints.

Starting October 1, insurers must notify current Medicare Advantage enrollees of any coverage changes or plan discontinuations. This development means many seniors will need to find alternative coverage during the open enrollment period from October 15 to December 7, with some having an extended deadline until the end of February if their existing plan is dropped entirely.

Despite these changes, current plans will remain active until December 31, 2025. The New Hampshire Insurance Department has characterized the Medicare Advantage market as "collapsing," especially impacting rural areas that may have limited replacement options. This trend is not unique to New Hampshire but reflects nationwide pressures exacerbated by prior regulatory adjustments. Insurance agents are advising beneficiaries to review their current providers, medications, and healthcare needs now to make informed decisions when selecting new plans. Medicare Advantage offers additional benefits beyond basic Medicare, such as dental and vision coverage, distinct from Medigap policies that supplement original Medicare.

Resources for affected enrollees include Medicare's Plan Finder and the state insurance department's consumer services unit for guidance and support.
