VA Launches VALife Guaranteed-Acceptance Life Insurance for Veterans with Disabilities
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs introduced VALife in 2023, a guaranteed-acceptance whole life insurance program tailored for veterans with service-connected disabilities. Unlike traditional VA policies, VALife requires no health questionnaires or medical examinations, making coverage accessible to veterans regardless of health status or age limitations within set parameters. Eligible veterans include those aged 80 or younger with a disability rating from 0% to 100%, as well as some applicants older than 80 who applied before turning 81 and received service connection thereafter. This insurance product is offered in incremental coverage amounts of $10,000, up to $40,000, with premiums fixed based on the applicant's age at enrollment. Although the premiums tend to be higher than some private insurers due to the no-underwriting guarantee, policies accumulate cash value over time and are considered fully paid at age 90. Benefits become fully payable after two years, with partial returns of premiums plus interest in the event of death prior to that period. Applications can be completed online, but many veterans opt to apply via phone through the VA Life Insurance Center for personalized assistance and clarification on eligibility and costs. This phone support eliminates the need for in-person appointments and simplifies the application process, offering veterans a dependable financial support option through life insurance tied specifically to service-connected disabilities.
