CMS Launches New Verification Process to Enhance Medicaid and CHIP Integrity

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has initiated a new oversight program to verify the citizenship and immigration status of Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) enrollees. Monthly enrollment reports will be provided to states highlighting individuals whose status could not be confirmed via federal databases like the Department of Homeland Security's SAVE program. States are responsible for reviewing these cases, verifying documentation, adjusting coverage if necessary, and enforcing eligibility rules.
