Key Medicaid DSH and Medicare Advantage Advocacy Efforts Over August Recess
During the August recess, America's Essential Hospitals is actively engaging in advocacy to urge Congress to eliminate the upcoming Medicaid disproportionate share hospital (DSH) funding cut set for September 30, alongside other expiring healthcare provisions. The association is coordinating with lawmakers who previously supported efforts against these cuts and is prepared to mobilize as federal funding decisions approach. Concurrently, there is bipartisan legislative momentum to enhance the Medicare Advantage (MA) program's reimbursement practices and network inclusivity for essential community providers. Key legislation includes the Prompt and Fair Pay Act, mandating fair provider payments under MA plans, and a proposed bill requiring MA plans to negotiate with essential community providers to improve access in underserved areas. Members are encouraged to participate in district-level advocacy and stay informed through the association's Federal Action Network as the House and Senate return in early September.
