Chubb ACE Insurance Covers Study Abroad Medical Needs with Supplemental Support

Students enrolled in approved academic programs abroad automatically receive international medical and emergency supplemental insurance through Chubb ACE American Insurance Company, included in the program cost. This coverage, supplemented by International SOS for medical and travel security assistance, applies for the duration of the study abroad program plus seven days before and after.

Students on domestic programs are not covered by Chubb ACE and must rely on their primary health insurance for coverage.\n\nThe Chubb ACE policy is designed to cover accidents and sicknesses that occur during the program but does not cover routine or preventive care, and students are required to maintain their primary health insurance whether through Dickinson College or independently. Certain high-risk activities are excluded from coverage, and travel to countries with high-level U.S. State Department advisories or war risk designations is also excluded.\n\nIf students travel independently beyond program dates or to excluded countries, they are advised to seek additional insurance options. The policy covers medical evacuation when necessary if treatment cannot be performed locally or in a neighboring country. On-site resources and assistance are available through International SOS and program directors.\n\nMental health support is available but limited under Chubb ACE, with coverage for up to 10 counseling or therapy sessions annually. Students needing more extensive mental health services must consult their primary insurance providers. Medication legality and availability differ by host country; students must research and prepare accordingly, including bringing prescriptions and letters for their conditions.

Mailing prescription medication internationally is prohibited.\n\nStudents receive policy details and resources through pre-departure orientations and digital platforms. The program emphasizes the importance of compliance with local legal requirements and advises early preparation to secure necessary medications and understand health and safety protocols abroad. This insurance framework balances supplemental emergency coverage with reliance on primary health insurance, addressing a broad spectrum of risks students may face while studying internationally.
