CRC Group Expands Internationally with Acquisition of Atrium Underwriting

US-based insurance distributor CRC Group has agreed to acquire Atrium Underwriting Group Ltd., a London-headquartered managing general agent (MGA) specializing in property, casualty, and specialty reinsurance lines, marking CRC's first strategic investment outside North America. The acquisition, pending regulatory approval and customary closing conditions, enables CRC to expand its global footprint while allowing Atrium to maintain its independent operations and leadership under its established brand.

Atrium, operating within Lloyd's as Syndicate 609, reported strong financial metrics for the year ending December 2024, including a net technical account profit of £63.8 million and total assets of £2.367 billion, underscoring its disciplined underwriting culture and consistent return on capital to third-party capital providers. This move aligns with CRC's broader growth strategy exemplified by its recent acquisitions of ARC Excess & Surplus, LLC and Risk Transfer Partners, reinforcing its position as a key player in the wholesale insurance distribution and brokerage sector with over $30 billion in annual premium placements. Legal and financial advisory firms supported the transaction, highlighting the strategic complexity and significance of this cross-border deal. For US insurance professionals, CRC's acquisition of Atrium signals a growing trend of domestic insurers expanding internationally to access specialized underwriting expertise and diversify risk portfolios, while preserving existing operational frameworks to maintain market agility and client trust.
