Leadership Transition at New York Life's Group Benefit Solutions

New York Life has appointed Meghan Shea as the new head of Group Benefit Solutions (GBS), effective January 1, 2027.

Meghan Shea, currently the vice president and head of Distribution for GBS, steps into the role with over 20 years of experience in the group insurance sector. Shea’s promotion follows Scott Berlin's retirement at the end of 2026 after more than 36 years with New York Life. She will report directly to Alain Karaoglan, executive vice president overseeing New York Life's Strategic Businesses. Karaoglan expressed confidence in Shea’s leadership abilities, commending her understanding of both business dynamics and client needs, while also recognizing Berlin’s valuable contributions to the company.

Strategic Transition at GBS

Shea’s previous role emphasized growth and strategy development for GBS Distribution. Her journey with New York Life began in 2020 with the company’s acquisition of Cigna's Group Insurance division, where her focus on fortifying distribution and strategy set the stage for her current promotion. As she takes on her new responsibilities, Shea is expected to enhance services and value offerings for clients, employees, and broker partners, aligning with New York Life’s long-term strategic goals.

Leadership Succession

In a strategically aligned move, Michael Banks will succeed Shea as the head of GBS Distribution. Currently head of National Accounts for GBS, Banks brings a wealth of industry experience and is celebrated for his insights and leadership capabilities. This transition is anticipated to support GBS’s ongoing growth and operational excellence.
