AIG Appoints New CEO for Americas and Global Personal Insurance

AIG has appointed Sierra Signorelli as the CEO of Americas and Global Personal Insurance, effective January 1, 2027, marking a strategic leadership change in its global insurance operations.

Signorelli will oversee AIG's commercial insurance operations across North America, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Global Personal Insurance. Reporting directly to CEO Eric Andersen, she steps into this role amidst notable shifts in major U.S. insurance lines. According to a survey by the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, commercial property and casualty premiums in the U.S. saw an average decrease of 2% in the second quarter. This decline was driven by increased capacity in the property sector, despite rises in umbrella and commercial auto premiums.

Market Dynamics and Competition

These varying trends present both opportunities and challenges for insurance intermediaries. Increased property capacity has led to heightened competition within commercial accounts, while the strength of the casualty sector continues to provide stability. AIG’s North America Commercial segment reported a notable 9% increase in net premiums, reaching $3.1 billion in the second quarter. This growth was primarily due to expansions in retail casualty and financial lines, although this was counterbalanced by reductions in property business at Lexington. The segment improved its combined ratio to 84.0%.

Leadership and Expertise

Signorelli brings substantial experience in underwriting and operations to her new position. Her previous leadership roles, including her time as the global chief underwriting officer for specialty lines at AIG, have equipped her well for this pivotal responsibility. Her successor at Zurich, Alex Wells, has been appointed as the new US CEO, following her departure from her CEO roles and service on the group’s executive committee at Zurich.

Strategic Developments at AIG

Under Signorelli’s leadership, AIG aims to reinforce its underwriting capabilities and enhance its distribution channels. This strategic focus aligns with AIG’s broader vision to adapt to evolving capacity dynamics within the insurance market. Eric Andersen, CEO of AIG, emphasized Signorelli’s industry stature, noting her extensive network and respected leadership background.

Though AIG has not outlined specific changes to its underwriting strategies or pricing policies with this appointment, Signorelli will likely navigate strategic decisions involving competitive pricing and firm underwriting terms. The company's restructuring efforts under Andersen's leadership are strategically positioned to address these dynamics.
