Julie Pearce Appointed Acting Deputy Insurance Commissioner in Iowa
The Iowa Department of Insurance and Financial Services has announced Julie Pearce as its new acting deputy insurance commissioner for market regulation, a pivotal role in overseeing key lines such as life, annuity, and property and casualty insurance.
Pearce's appointment marks a significant move within the department, as her nearly 20 years of experience in the insurance and financial sectors is expected to bring a wealth of expertise to the role. Since joining the Iowa Insurance Division in 2024, she served as a holding company specialist, overseeing strategy and risk for an Internationally Active Insurance Group, and tackling industry issues like social inflation and natural disasters through the Property and Casualty Personal Lines Task Force.
Doug Ommen, Iowa's Insurance Commissioner, expressed confidence in Pearce's capabilities, noting that her "deep industry experience, strong financial background, and proven track record in regulatory oversight and innovation" make her a formidable fit for this position. Before her tenure at the Department, Pearce amassed a significant track record in the financial services realm. Her most recent role before joining was as vice president and chief business development & transformation officer at Wellabe, where she spearheaded agency sales, innovation, and strategic development. Her experience also includes roles at Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company of Iowa and Ernst & Young LLP, positioning her as a well-rounded leader with a holistic understanding of the industry.

Beyond her professional duties, Pearce remains actively engaged with the insurance community. She has co-chaired the prestigious Global Insurance Symposiums for 2025 and 2026, shared insights on Agentic AI supervision, and mentored upcoming professionals in the Global Insurance Accelerator program.
