North Carolina Appoints New Chief Deputy Commissioner for Insurance

Chuck Myers has been appointed as the new chief deputy commissioner of the North Carolina Department of Insurance, effective October 1.

This strategic appointment places Myers, a seasoned insurance professional, at the helm of a pivotal regulatory role in North Carolina. Commissioner Mike Causey expressed confidence in Myers' ability to transition smoothly into the role following Jackie Obusek's departure. Myers' prior experience includes his tenure as deputy commissioner specializing in property and casualty insurance at the Louisiana Department of Insurance. In Louisiana, he chaired the Louisiana Auto Insurance Plan, ensuring coverage for high-risk drivers, and played an instrumental role in restructuring the Louisiana Fortified Homes Program.

Building on a Robust Foundation

Myers’ appointment is bolstered by his extensive career in insurance, which includes significant contributions in Virginia. During his time with the Virginia Bureau of Insurance, Myers managed the Real Estate Settlement Agents Investigations Section, an effort that earned him the Virginia State Police Fraud Fighters Award. His academic foundation in risk management and insurance from Florida State University, complemented by a bachelor's degree in psychology, underpins his broad expertise in the field.
