Amazon Pharmacy Launches GLP-1 Medications Delivery for Medicare Beneficiaries

Amazon Pharmacy has introduced a groundbreaking delivery service for GLP-1 weight management medications, including popular prescriptions such as Wegovy, Zepbound, and Foundayo, to eligible Medicare beneficiaries. Operating under the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program, this initiative offers these medications at a predictable cost of $50 per month with free delivery, aiming to enhance access for Part D participants. The service streamlines benefit verification, AI-driven prior authorization, and patient enrollment following clinician-submitted electronic prescriptions. Currently, same-day delivery is available in over 3,100 U.S. locations, with plans to expand to nearly 4,500 sites by the year's end.

Tarsus Pharmaceuticals has strategically acquired Alkeus Pharmaceuticals in a deal valued at approximately $450 million, focusing on the innovative therapy gildeuretinol. This therapy, currently in development for Stargardt disease, has shown promising results. The acquisition terms include $270 million in cash and $180 million in Tarsus stock, with contingent milestone payments up to $350 million based on regulatory and commercial milestones. The Tease-1 study demonstrated gildeuretinol's efficacy with a nearly 30 percent reduction in the growth of atrophic retinal lesions, reaching statistical significance compared to untreated cases.

The Ignyte clinical trial revealed an objective response rate of 24.2 percent for this combination treatment, with a median response duration of 14.1 months. This approval marks the conclusion of an extensive regulatory compliance process spanning nearly two years, culminating with a favorable advisory committee recommendation and addressing previous complete response letters.
