Howden Establishes Miami as Headquarters for Americas Operations

Global insurance broker Howden has established Miami as the headquarters for its Americas commercial insurance broking operations. This strategic decision, less than a year after launching its U.S. retail broking operations, underscores Miami’s burgeoning role as a hub for international insurance firms serving the Americas.

Since its inception in 2025, Howden has developed over 20 specialized broking teams across the U.S. The company has enhanced its platform with offerings in private capital, employee health and benefits, and private client services. Currently, Howden employs over 1,300 individuals and serves 3,000 clients in the United States, focusing on both middle market and large enterprise clients.

Miami: A Global Hub

Mike Parrish, CEO of Howden Americas, cited Miami's strong global connections as pivotal to the decision. He noted, "Miami is one of the world's most connected business communities and an increasingly important location for companies operating across the Americas." Other industry leaders, such as Lloyd’s of London and Allianz Commercial, have also established Miami hubs, enhancing the city’s status as a critical point for international insurers targeting Latin America and the Caribbean.

The decision to base headquarters in Miami also underscores the scale of Howden’s operations in Latin America and the Caribbean. Employing over 1,000 individuals across 12 offices in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Chile, the move is set to bolster integration between U.S. and Latin American operations, enhancing collaboration with clients and carriers, as noted by Sonia Caamaño, CEO of Latin America and the Caribbean at Howden.

Market Growth and Community Engagement

According to McKinsey’s Global Insurance Report 2025, the Latin American insurance market reached $213 billion in gross written premiums in 2024, showing an 11% compound annual growth rate from 2019 to 2024. Despite this growth, the region represents only 3% of the global insurance market, continually attracting interest from international brokers.

In addition to its commercial interests, Howden has committed robustly to local philanthropy, contributing approximately $400,000 to Miami-area nonprofit and community organizations within its first year. Parrish emphasized Miami's role not just geographically, but as a community home, promising the same dedication to local organizations as is shown to clients.

Globally, Howden operates in over 50 countries while employing more than 20,000 people. This expansion in the Americas marks one of the most significant movements by an international broker into the U.S. market in recent years.
