ERA Acquires Hamann Insurance Group in Texas to Expand Market Presence

Enterprise Risk Associates LLC (ERA) has completed the acquisition of Hamann Insurance Group LLC (HIG), a Texas-based brokerage specializing in homeowners' associations (HOAs) and condominiums. The transaction, finalized on June 17, 2026, underscores ERA's intent to broaden its insurance market influence, although financial terms remain undisclosed.

For over 45 years, HIG has served the Houston metropolitan area, extending expertise to both commercial and individual clients. Founder Dennis Hamann will continue at the helm, overseeing operations from offices in Katy and San Antonio with a workforce of approximately 11 to 50 employees. With insurance licenses in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Louisiana, Missouri, and Utah, HIG presents ERA an opportunity for market expansion.

Adam Wolper, CEO of ERA, emphasized the strategic benefits of entering the Texas market. "We’re pleased to integrate Dennis and his experienced team into ERA, enhancing our service offerings with their notable HOA and condominium expertise," Wolper stated, reflecting the strategic move to leverage specialized insurance expertise.

ERA, headquartered in Tarrytown, New York, was backed in 2024 by KZ Capital, representing the Karfunkel-Zyskind family office, and Lamberg Management Inc. The Karfunkel-Zyskind family is renowned in the insurance sector, notably transforming AmTrust Financial Services into a leading commercial insurer.

Despite a general slowdown in M&A activity post-pandemic, ERA’s endeavors illuminate its growth-focused strategy. OPTIS Partners reported 148 insurance M&A transactions in the first quarter of 2026, a striking decline to levels unseen since 2016. Nevertheless, private equity-backed firms like ERA maintain a stronghold, completing a significant share of the 241 deals tracked by MarshBerry through May 2026.

Texas, with over 21,500 HOA communities as reported by the Community Associations Institute, is particularly attractive due to high insurance premiums driven by increased storm and hail risks. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Texas homeowners' insurance premiums rose by 55% from 2019 to 2024. HIG’s proficiency in this specialized insurance niche affords ERA a competitive edge in a challenging market.
