Insurance Town Hall Meeting Addresses Wildfire Preparedness in Spokane

Washington State Insurance Commissioner Patty Kuderer is hosting an insurance-focused town hall meeting in Spokane on August 5. This event, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture, will address homeowner insurance challenges and strategies for wildfire preparedness. Joining her will be State Senator Marcus Riccelli and Spokane City Council member Kate Telis, who will discuss enhancing community resilience against wildfires.

The event provides a platform for residents to engage with officials about pressing insurance topics, including wildfire risk and insurance costs. Commissioner Kuderer expressed her eagerness to hear directly from Spokane residents about their concerns. Additionally, staff from the Office of the Insurance Commissioner's Consumer Protection team will be present to assist attendees with questions about insurance policies and claims processes.

This town hall is part of Commissioner Kuderer’s Community Connect initiative, focusing on engaging communities on insurance-related issues. Looking ahead, she plans to propose legislation in 2027 to introduce a voluntary grant program. This program aims to help homeowners fortify their properties against wildfire damage and offer transparency regarding wildfire risk scores that influence home insurance pricing and eligibility.
