AdventHealth and Intermountain Health Announce Strategic Collaboration

AdventHealth and Intermountain Health, two leading healthcare systems in Colorado, have announced plans for a collaborative venture to integrate their hospital operations in the Denver metropolitan area. Under the signed letter of intent, this partnership will consolidate AdventHealth's five hospitals with Intermountain's three hospitals in the region.

Upon establishment of the joint venture, AdventHealth will manage Intermountain's Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette, Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, and Platte Valley Hospital in Brighton. The arrangement also includes affiliated physician practices, clinics, and AdventHealth's standalone emergency and urgent care facilities.

David Banks, President and CEO of AdventHealth, highlighted the collaboration as an effort to enhance their shared goal of providing top-tier, compassionate healthcare services. Rob Allen, Intermountain's President and CEO, expressed optimism about the potential for improved patient access and integrated care experiences throughout the Denver area.

Currently, it is uncertain whether the new entity will adopt a distinct name or result in staffing changes, administrative consolidations, or system integrations. Representatives from both healthcare systems have declined to provide further insights or make executives available for commentary.

This strategic move occurs amidst financial and operational challenges within Colorado's hospital sector. Escalating healthcare costs and modifications to Medicaid and health insurance funding are exerting additional pressures on providers. Additionally, both AdventHealth and Intermountain Health are navigating the aftermath of recent significant organizational changes.

AdventHealth, headquartered in Florida, operates over 2,000 care sites nationwide with a workforce exceeding 100,000 employees. Intermountain Health, based in Utah, manages 34 hospitals and more than 400 clinics, employing 4,600 individuals.

Intermountain acquired its Colorado presence in 2022 through a merger with SCL Health. While SCL Health was a Catholic-affiliated entity, only Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver and St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction continue to follow Catholic health directives, and neither is part of the AdventHealth joint venture. The reasons for their exclusion from the collaboration remain undisclosed.
