Royal Neighbors of America: Community Empowerment and Financial Security
As the United States nears its 250th anniversary, Royal Neighbors of America stands as a testament to enduring economic security and community empowerment. Headquartered in the Quad Cities, this organization, established over 130 years ago, offers life insurance and annuity products aimed at fostering financial opportunities for future generations.
Royal Neighbors highlights how life insurance provides financial security for beneficiaries, alongside offering distinctive membership perks like "Insurance with a DifferenceSM." These benefits include prescription discounts and health screenings, available even to those not purchasing insurance or annuities. Additionally, the organization supports volunteer initiatives through grants, enhancing community involvement and empowerment.
Founded in 1895 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, by Marie Kirkland and eight women, Royal Neighbors originally aimed to advance family protection, community development, and women's empowerment. At a time when female financial autonomy was rare, the organization distinguished itself by providing life insurance access to women and expanding financial protection to underserved groups.
Since relocating to Rock Island, Illinois, in 1927, Royal Neighbors has expanded its support to nearly 300,000 members across the nation. Beyond insurance products, the organization encourages community engagement through its Community Chapters, involving activities like charitable fundraisers, food distribution, and veteran support.
In Rock Island, members partake in meal distributions with St. Joseph's Parish, while the Viola chapter collaborates on quilting projects. Davenport members have developed community gardens to aid refugee families. Active chapters are rewarded with additional funding, sustaining their community impact. Royal Neighbors offers Beneficial Membership with its financial products, while General Membership remains accessible for individuals over 15, with free Youth General Membership for those under 15.
