Guardian Life Wins Most Sustainable Financial Institution Award

Guardian Life Insurance Limited has been honored with the "Most Sustainable Financial Institution of the Year – Insurance" award at the SDG Brand Champion Awards 2026. This prestigious recognition celebrates the success of their Guardian BRAC Bima initiative, which was launched in collaboration with BRAC in 2015 to integrate essential insurance products into BRAC's extensive microfinance network.

The Guardian BRAC Bima initiative extends insurance coverage through approximately 3,300 BRAC branches across all 64 districts of Bangladesh, reaching an impressive 12.2 million individuals. The program primarily targets borrowers and their spouses within the BRAC microfinance community, with a particular focus on providing support to underserved women from low-income households.

The core function of Guardian BRAC Bima is to manage outstanding loan obligations following the insured individual's death, thereby relieving financial stress on families. In the year 2025 alone, the initiative processed 39,243 claims amounting to approximately Tk 241.96 crore. Since its inception, Guardian Life reports that the program has settled claims totaling around Tk 1,415 crore.

Sheikh Rakibul Karim, FCA, CEO of Guardian Life, highlighted the program's transformative impact, stating that the loss of a loved one can escalate into a financial crisis for low-income households. Thanks to the partnership with BRAC, families are supported in managing the additional burden of debt during such challenging times. Karim also committed to broadening insurance coverage to reach more underserved communities.

This initiative is strategically aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including poverty reduction, health and well-being, gender equality, sustainable communities, and partnerships. The SDG Brand Champion Awards, curated by the Bangladesh Brand Forum and Sustainable Brand Initiative, saw 472 nominations, ultimately selecting 59 initiatives across 19 categories.
