Lemonade Expands Renters Insurance to Vermont and Maine

Lemonade, a digital-focused insurance provider, has expanded its renters insurance offerings to Vermont and Maine, marking the 43rd and 44th states added to its coverage area. Utilizing a mobile application, Lemonade enables policyholders to obtain quotes, purchase coverage, manage policies, and file claims. According to Dan Timsit, Lemonade's head of renters insurance, the company aims to simplify the insurance process with straightforward quotes and immediate claims services.

The company offers coverage starting at $5 per month, reportedly around 30% less than the national average according to company data. Additional savings can be accessed through bundling options, having certain home safety devices, or opting for annual premiums. As a certified B-corporation, Lemonade allocates a portion of leftover premiums to support various nonprofit organizations.

Founded in New York in 2016, Lemonade initially launched renters and homeowners insurance with a primary focus on digital platforms. In recent financial results, Lemonade reported a reduced net loss of approximately $35.8 million for the first quarter of 2026, compared to $62.4 million the prior year. The company experienced significant gains in financial performance indicators with a 159% rise in gross profit, yielding about $100 million, and a 32% increase in in-force premiums to approximately $1.3 billion. Revenue also rose 71% to $258 million compared to the first quarter of 2025.
