South Carolina's Safe Home Grant Program for Hurricane Resilience
The South Carolina Department of Insurance will soon accept applications for the Safe Home grant program, aiming to bolster home resilience in hurricane-prone areas through the installation of wind-resistant roofs. Starting July 13, homeowners can apply for grants between $4,000 and $7,500 to enhance their properties with roofing that meets Safe Home or IBHS Fortified Roof standards.
Eligible residents, including those in Beaufort, Charleston, and Horry counties, must ensure their homes are owner-occupied and insured to qualify. The program also offers up to $3,000 for storm shutter installations. Participants may benefit from tax advantages and potential insurance premium reductions.
Due to previous rapid depletion of funds, prospective applicants are urged to act swiftly. For comprehensive details, visit the South Carolina Department of Insurance website, which includes instructional content on the application process.
Statewide Sales Tax Holiday
From August 7-9, South Carolina will host a sales tax holiday, offering consumers state-wide tax exemptions on select items such as clothing and computers. Established in 2000, this event provides a strategic opportunity for consumers and businesses to maximize savings on significant purchases. Certain categories, like computer supplies and mobile phones, are excluded from the exemptions.
