Anthem and VCU Health Collaborate to Enhance Healthcare Affordability

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia, alongside VCU Health, has unveiled a multi-year agreement intended to boost healthcare affordability and innovation across the state. This partnership continues a legacy of collaboration aimed at enhancing healthcare quality and patient experiences through innovative care models and improved care coordination.

Enhancing Healthcare Affordability through Collaboration

Monica Schmude, President of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia, underscored the necessity of collective efforts in tackling healthcare affordability, emphasizing the initiative's role in achieving these goals. The renewed collaboration promises to investigate pioneering programs like Hospital at Home services, delivering acute-level care at home for qualifying patients. Both entities will concentrate on bolstering population health management and advancing value-based care strategies.

In proactive discussions with community leaders and policymakers, Anthem and VCU Health engaged in a roundtable to tackle escalating healthcare costs and discover solutions to enhance primary care access and consumer navigation. As part of the refreshed agreement, VCU Health will exit Anthem's Medicare Advantage network for specific plans starting January 1, 2027, although they will remain in-network until December 31, 2026. This transition affects select Anthem Medicare Advantage plans, excluding Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs), commercial, individual, family, Medicaid, or Medicare Supplement plans. Both organizations are dedicated to aiding members through this shift.

Marlon Levy, CEO of VCU Health, expressed satisfaction with this ongoing collaboration, highlighting a mutual commitment to delivering high-quality care. Members seeking further information on these changes can visit Anthem's website or reach out to customer service for assistance.
