2026 America's Best Drivers Report by Allstate: Impact on Insurance Costs

Allstate has released its 2026 America's Best Drivers Report, highlighting the safest and riskiest cities for drivers across the United States. The research indicates that residents in cities with lower collision rates may experience extended periods between accidents, potentially reducing insurance expenses. The report underscores the impact of geography and driving habits on driver safety and consequent insurance costs.

For the second consecutive year, Brownsville, Texas, is named the safest city for drivers. Conversely, Boston holds its position as the city most prone to collisions. Among noteworthy shifts, Waco, Texas, emerged as the most improved city, ascending 40 spots, while Detroit experienced a notable decline, dropping 38 positions.

Now in its 18th iteration, the report evaluates the 200 largest U.S. cities by analyzing auto insurance claims data and insights from Allstate’s Drivewise tool, available in their mobile app. Drivewise provides feedback on driving behaviors such as speed, braking, and phone usage, aiming to enhance driving habits. The data, combining claims history and Drivewise insights, offers a clearer picture of crash frequency and behaviors that elevate risk, supplying drivers with actionable strategies to potentially lower insurance costs.

Driving Behavior Insights

"Location affects your risk, but individual driving behaviors are equally influential," stated Laura Hoffman, Allstate’s vice president of auto design and telematics. By integrating claims data with driving insights like speeding and phone use from Drivewise, Allstate seeks to empower drivers to reduce crash risks and control insurance costs.

Representing roughly 10% of all U.S. auto policies, Allstate’s findings provide a comprehensive overview of national driving trends. Data illustrates drivers in the safest cities are significantly less likely to be involved in accidents. Brownsville leads, with drivers averaging nearly 15 years between accidents.

Top-ranked cities for safety based on claims data include Brownsville, TX; Fort Collins, CO; and Boise, ID, among others. Boston, characterized by a collision average of every 3.76 years, shows vulnerability 189% above the national average, contributing to increased repair and insurance expenditures.

Allstate's Drivewise insights reveal how particular driving habits, including speed and phone use, affect risk across the nation. By recognizing these patterns, drivers can potentially lessen collision chances and reduce costs. For more detailed findings and data from the Allstate study, further information is available.
