Zurich Launches Life Science Insurance Product for European Markets

Zurich Insurance Group is set to launch its life science insurance product in July 2026, marking a significant expansion of its U.S. presence into key European markets. These markets will include Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. This initiative targets the burgeoning needs of life science companies seeking early-stage international expansion to back clinical development and global commercialization efforts.

The move into these markets introduces life science firms to varying regulatory compliance requirements and intricate operational and supply chain risks. According to Luciano Ciriná, CEO of Commercial Insurance International, life sciences sectors face rapid innovation and evolving regulatory complexities. He emphasized the necessity for insurance solutions that adapt to these changes, ensuring consistent coverage and protection as companies transition from discovery to global commercialization.

Zurich's new offering incorporates specialized underwriting with advanced risk engineering and claims management expertise. It aims to cover major industry risks such as product liability, property, business interruption, marine, and accident & health. This comprehensive insurance solution provides protection across the life sciences value chain, supported by both local and globally coordinated insurance programs.

Moreover, Zurich Resilience Solutions will provide consultancy and risk engineering services aimed at strengthening operational resilience and risk management for life science companies. This product launch aligns with Zurich's strategic objectives to enhance its presence in the European middle market segment.
