Woburn Receives $9,500 Grant for Municipal Safety Enhancements

The City of Woburn has been awarded a $9,500 grant from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA) to enhance safety and efficiency within its municipal buildings. This grant is part of MIIA's commitment as the city's property and casualty insurer to identify and update outdated equipment, audit key city buildings, and upgrade control systems. By implementing these improvements, Woburn anticipates a safer working environment while reducing liability and operational expenses, thereby improving public service delivery.

Expressing gratitude, Shawna Healey, Woburn's Director of Human Resources, acknowledged MIIA's recognition of the city's proactive safety measures through this grant. "Protecting municipal buildings and the employees and residents who visit them is a top priority for the city," she stated.

The MIIA risk management grant program, now in its 24th year, distributed $1 million to 146 members during the fiscal year 2026, supporting enhanced risk management strategies to safeguard public infrastructure and assets. Stan Corcoran, Senior Executive and MIIA Executive Vice President, emphasized the program's objective to help members mitigate risks associated with changing weather, employee safety, and cybersecurity threats. "This grant program is about helping members take practical steps to reduce risk and strengthen resilience," Corcoran remarked.

MIIA functions as a service arm of the Massachusetts Municipal Association, operating as a nonprofit to offer Massachusetts municipalities insurance alternatives and risk management solutions.
