North Carolina's Health Care Affordability and Value Commission Created to Address Rising Costs

Governor Josh Stein has issued an executive order in North Carolina, creating a commission to tackle the escalating costs of health care within the state. The North Carolina Health Care Affordability and Value Commission will investigate the factors contributing to rising health expenses and develop strategies to improve affordability. This initiative reflects growing concerns over health care accessibility and financial burden on state residents.

The commission consists of diverse stakeholders, including researchers, health care providers, insurance companies, consumer advocates, and policymakers. Co-led by State Treasurer Brad Briner and Health and Human Services Secretary Dev Sanghvi, its primary objectives include enhancing price transparency, fostering competition, reducing prescription drug costs, and expanding access to primary and value-based care. This collaborative effort aims to bring comprehensive insights into the cost dynamics affecting health care delivery.

Governor Stein highlighted the intricacies of health care cost challenges, underscoring the commission's objective to utilize data and research for informed recommendations.
