Enhancing Healthcare Price Transparency and Prior Authorization

The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health convened on June 25 to assess key legislative measures aimed at enhancing healthcare price transparency, addressing illicit drug issues, and refining prior authorization processes. Key legislation reviewed includes the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act (H.R. 9393), which could formalize hospital and health plan price transparency regulations, and the Prices on the Wall Act (H.R. 9390), which mandates hospitals to prominently display pricing. Additionally, the Improving Seniors' Timely Access to Care Act (H.R. 3514), endorsed by the American Hospital Association (AHA), targets improved standardization of prior authorization for Medicare Advantage plans.

Before the meeting, the AHA provided feedback on June 10 regarding certain proposals slated for discussion. Post-meeting, the proposed bills have been forwarded to the full committee for further deliberation.
