Stuart and Mary Perry's Generous Contribution to Maryland Athletics
Stuart Bowers and Mary Perry have pledged a significant seven-figure contribution to support Maryland Athletics, focusing primarily on student-athlete scholarships as well as enhancing the programs of Field Hockey and Men's Lacrosse. Their commitment includes continued financial contributions to enrich operations, provide resources for student-athletes, and support facility development in Men's Lacrosse. Additionally, they have arranged an estate gift to establish endowments for these programs and a scholarship fund.
"Our belief in college athletics aligns with the University of Maryland's direction," stated Stuart and Mary. "Coaches such as John Tillman and Missy Meharg are cultivating life skills in their players beyond the field, supported by Jim Smith's dedication to leadership development."
Stuart and Mary have long been supporters of Maryland Athletics, with season tickets for multiple sports. Stuart has contributed over 35 years to Maryland's athletic programs in leadership roles, including serving as president of the Terrapin Club. He is also part of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation Board of Trustees and has a professional background in financial and brokerage operations with leadership roles in several firms.
Mary, holding three degrees from Boston University, served in the United States Air Force, specializing in international and national security law. Her career included roles at various airbase locations globally and within the Department of Defense.
Jim Smith, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics, commended their contributions, saying, "Stuart and Mary are invaluable partners in enhancing Maryland Athletics. Their presence at events and financial support underscore their commitment to our student-athletes both on and off the field."
Planned giving, such as Stuart and Mary's estate arrangements, plays a crucial role in supporting the University of Maryland. Donations through estate plans or other financial arrangements secure continued growth and excellence for future generations. Options include contributions through cash, securities, retirement plans, life insurance, and real estate, all structured to meet individual donor needs.
Their gift is part of the Forward: The University of Maryland Campaign for the Fearless, which aims to raise $2.5 billion to expand access to education, drive research, and strengthen community ties, with $350 million specifically targeted at Maryland Athletics. Those interested in joining the initiative can contact the Terrapin Club for more information.
